In 2023, our founder Melissa found out at her 20 week anatomy scan that her son Liam would be born with a cleft lip, cleft palate and VSD. With medical bills piling up and wanting to ensure the best care possible for her son, she desperately took out personal loans to cover the bills. Thankfully with working many hours and constantly saving, she was able to pay back all medical bills owed. Going through that experience inspired her to create Cleft Lip Warriors. Her goal is to help other families in need who are struggling financially to help pay for care for their loved ones who have craniofacial anomalies. Cleft Lip Warriors goal is to raise money for those in need so that they do not have to stress over the financial hardships.
Outside of work, Melissa is heavily involved in her community. She is on the race committee and advisory board at Children’s National, volunteers with the Children’s Inn and is affiliated with many religious based organizations. Melissa wants other families to know that it is important to stay strong. There will always be a light at the end of a dark tunnel and to always be kind to others because you never know what they are going through.
