Already suffering three losses, having a live birth and now being pregnant with another child I went into this pregnancy not knowing what would happen. I was alone at the 20 week anatomy scan and the sonographer was super chatty with me until their was a long awkward pause. She then said "I need to get a second opinion. Let me get the doctor". I knew in that moment that there was something wrong.
The doctor told me that there was a slight cut in my babies lip and that he would be born with a cleft lip and potentially a cleft palate. Throughout the whole pregnancy baby Liam would constantly cover his face so they could never get a good image of how the cleft lip or potential cleft palate would look. After going through 50 plus doctors appointments with my mother by my side...I had an unplanned C-section. Baby Liam is everything to me and I am so grateful for him. Liam's name means warrior and he truly is one. I have two amazing boys and I am so grateful to be a mother and have my babies. Liam has not received his surgery yet but he will soon at Children's National!
